Silence
When things get confusing and complex, we usually want only one thing: to do something. Anything. No matter what. Behavioral scientists call this action bias, a cognitive distortion with built-in, systematic fallacies. This phenomenon seems to feel really at home in the present world. That’s why we went ahead and did just the opposite: pause, keep calm, endure the silence and stop without really stopping. A couple of cars helped us to wonderfully slow down while stepping on the gas. The Ferrari F8 Tributo for example. A Porsche 911 Carrera 4S. Or the McLaren 570S GT4.

In this issue:

Michael Mauer and the Taycan

A slightly different sort of interview: riding passenger, we accompany Porsche chief designer Michael Mauer on his first outing with the Porsche Taycan on one of his favorite drives through the Black Forest. The iPhone recorded everything Mauer had to say. Good thing that the electric sports car is so quiet.

Taking the McLaren Senna to visit Terry Fullerton

Ayrton Senna always spoke with great respect of Terry Fullerton. Who was just as fast as the triple world champion. And who at some point shied away from the risk. We visited the British racing driver at his home. In a car that is perfectly suited to trace the friendship between these two men: the McLaren Senna.

Arne Dahl writes, the Volvo PV544 does the sleuthing

Silence is the perfect prerequisite for writing. Says Arne Dahl, the Swedish crime author. He reveals his recipe for success: since everyone thinks that Scandinavians are always so nice to each other, a crime up there is all the more exciting. The vehicle for our own Swedish crime story: a Volvo PV544.

Porsche Speedster visits a blue lady

Our long and exhausting search for a place of quiet and seclusion ends in – a parking garage. The suitable companion was a new Porsche Speedster. Along the way we met a blue lady. And not just her. Admittedly, on this date the 911 was not to be overheard.

Designers on a Ducati tour

Two men, two motorcycles, one passion: design. How nice that Andrea Ferraresi and Mitja Borkert, the chief designers of Ducati and Lamborghini, aren’t just friends but also like riding out together.

Portrait: Andreas Henke from Burmester

Andreas Henke surrounds himself with the best sounds. That’s how it was at Porsche, and at Burmester it’s (almost) even more perfect. As managing director of the leading manufacturer of audio systems, he describes himself as someone who couldn’t do anything he didn’t feel one hundred percent passionate about.

Wladimir Kaminer discovers a vegan Hyundai

The Hyundai Kona and Hyundai Nexo are the polar opposites of noisy Berlin. Our author Wladimir Kaminer thought long and hard about these cars: “Compared to the vehicles of the past, our Hyundais seem almost vegan, courteous and humane.” Psst!

Gone but not forgotten

A thought-provoking story. And a sad one, too. How great a sacrifice is too great? Many racing drivers have paid for their passion with their lives. Our author Kurt Molzer spoke with relatives and visited the graves of Jochen Rindt, Jo Gartner, Stefan Bellof, Rolf Stommelen and Roland Ratzenberger.
